The Mentoring Program
is an opportunity for graduate academic library school students
to meet and learn from practicing academic librarians in the
student's area of interest. The program also serves the mentors,
as they learn what is featured in today's library school curricula
and how future librarians are socialized into the profession.
The program is available
throughout a sizeable geographic region, and mentors are available
in university, college and community college libraries in areas
of administration, archives, special collections, public and
technical services. Students and mentors usually meet at least
once, and continue communication vie e-mail and/or telephone
conversations.
To indicate your interest
as a student, please send me via e-mail your name, full contact
information, the name of the institution you attend, and your
geographic location if different from your school. You will
be matched with a librarian of similar interest and expertise,
and of reasonable geographic proximity.
To volunteer as a
mentor, please contact me via phone or e-mail, and indicate
your professional title and full contact information.
Reviews of the mentoring
experience from our mentors and students have been quite positive-I
look forward to hearing from you!
