A $1000 stipend will be awarded to a student enrolled in an ALA-accredited program to help offset the cost of educational expenses. Eligible applicants also must work or reside in the Chapter\u2019s service area. To apply, please submit an essay on the following topic:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using the ACRL\u2019s Framework to Teach News Literacy<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Oxford Dictionary\u2019s word of the year in 2016 was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.oxforddictionaries.com\/word-of-the-year\/word-of-the-year-2016\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Post-Truth<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, defined as \u201crelating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Libraries have long developed educational programming and collections that support critical thinking and informed decision-making. However, with the spread of misleading or fabricated stories through social media networks and the highly polarized politics of today, the way that people interact with the news has changed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our information landscape is evolving and librarians must develop new approaches to fostering healthy information practices and metaliteracy skills. Recognizing this need, the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/acrl\/standards\/ilframework#frames\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ACRL adopted the Framework of Information Literacy Instruction for Higher Education<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
